The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has made significant strides in combating drug trafficking with the seizure of over 1.11 lakh (111,000) bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup in two separate, intelligence-led operations conducted in Tripura and West Bengal. Tripura Operation Details
On July 2, 2026, DRI officers, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted a train consignment that was en route to Agartala, Tripura. The consignment was found to contain a large quantity of Codeine-based cough syrup bottles cleverly concealed within 80 metallic drums. To evade detection, the bottles were hidden under a layer of powdery substance.
This meticulous operation resulted in the seizure of 55,626 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup. The estimated illicit market value of these seized bottles is approximately Rs 6.54 crore. During this operation, Subrata Deb, the manager of B K Enterprise in Agartala, was arrested when he arrived to take delivery of the illicit consignment. The success of this operation was further bolstered by the crucial assistance provided by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Assam Rifles.
West Bengal Operation Details
Concurrently, around the same period, DRI officers conducted another targeted operation in West Bengal. Based on intelligence, a warehouse located in Dankuni was thoroughly searched. This search led to the discovery and recovery of an additional 56,225 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup. These bottles were found hidden within 104 sealed iron drums, ingeniously concealed beneath a layer of china clay powder.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
Both significant seizures were carried out under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. This act provides the legal framework for combating drug trafficking and abuse in India. The DRI has confirmed that further investigations are actively underway. पश्चिम बंगाल अभियान का विवरण
इसी अवधि के आसपास, DRI अधिकारियों ने पश्चिम बंगाल में एक और लक्षित अभियान चलाया। खुफिया जानकारी के आधार पर, दानकुनी में स्थित एक गोदाम की गहन तलाशी ली गई। इस तलाशी के कारण अतिरिक्त 56,225 बोतलें कोडाइन-आधारित कफ सिरप की खोज और बरामदगी हुई। ये बोतलें 104 सीलबंद लोहे के ड्रमों के भीतर छिपी हुई पाई गईं, जो चीन मिट्टी पाउडर की एक परत के नीचे चतुराई से छिपी हुई थीं।
